Ground-breaking research from our friends at the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Environmental Intelligence at the University of Exeter, in collaboration with Friends of the Earth, reveals that by utilising under 3% of England’s land for onshore wind and solar farms, we could increase our clean energy output by 13 times.
New Scholarship Opportunity 🌟
Another exciting opportunity for future MSc Environmental Intelligence students! The University of Exeter is proud to offer the Global Excellence Scholarship, aimed at supporting international students.
Climate Conversations brings you a show on Machine Learning within the discipline of Climate Science. Dr Doug McNeall introduces two Met Office experts, Prof Simon Vosper, Director of Science at the Met Office and Dr Rachel McInnes, Co-Director the Joint Centre for Environmental Intelligence.
JCEEI and IBM have held two scoping workshops to explore applications of geospatial foundation models.
We are excited to start a new project developing a chatbot to better communicate climate forecast data.
in November last year, the Met Office hosted the NASA Space Apps event in their Headquarters.
The JCEEI have successfully applied for funding from the Office for Students’ (OfS) . The funding will provide scholarships as part of their nationwide drive to expand access to the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence sector for women, students of colour, those with disabilities and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds in the UK.
Prof Kirstine Dale, Co-Director of the JCEEI, and members of the Met Office Informatics Lab are interviewed in this Met Office podcast exploring the use of data science and AI to better understand weather and climate change, as well as the importance of partnerships.
Presented by Dr Doug McNeall and Dr Rosie Oakes.
Producers: Clare Nasir and Grahame Madge.
Experts from the JCEEI showcased pioneering research at a high-profile national event.
Professor Hywel Williams has been appointed as the University of Exeter’s new Co-Director of the pioneering Joint Centre for Excellence in Environmental Intelligence (JCEEI).
The JCEEI and the University of Exeter are currently recruiting for two new senior positions: Co-Director for the JCEEI and Professor in Environmental Intelligence.
The JCEEI hosted NASA Space Apps 2022, the largest annual global hackathon in the world. This year’s event theme was ‘Make SPACE’, celebrating that ‘there’s always space for one more’, to eliminate barriers of access to space and science opportunities.
In recognition of the huge potential for data science and artificial intelligence to drive forward new advances in weather and climate science, the Met Office Data Science Framework has been published. Capability in data science within the Met Office has been growing over the last few years, with a vibrant community of practice, including the Joint Centre for Excellence in Environmental Intelligence. The Framework sets out how the Met Office will take the next step forward to help realise the potential of a new frontier in machine learning and artificial intelligence for weather and climate science and services.
The University of Exeter is delighted to announce Kirstine Dale, Co-Director for the Joint Centre for Excellence in Environmental Intelligence, as a new Honorary Professor within the Business School.
THE JCEEI will be an integral part of the newly announced ‘Renewing biodiversity through a people-in-nature approach’ (RENEW) project funded by NERC. RENEW will work with landowners, businesses, and communities to restore woodlands, wetlands and farmland across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) are currently recruiting for studentship opportunities for the September 2022 cohort. Please follow the link for more information:
